Minelab X-TERRA PRO Metal Detector and $399 Beach Bundle

The Minelab X-TERRA PRO is a waterproof, selectable-frequency metal detector designed for coins, jewelry, relics and beach hunting. It combines straightforward factory programs with enough control to let a newer detectorist develop more advanced settings as experience grows.

Choose the detector by itself for $278.99, or select the $399 X-TERRA PRO Beach Bundle to receive the complete factory package plus a Minelab Shell Pouch, detecting gloves, beach scoop and hand digger.

Both purchase options include free shipping, no sales tax outside Oklahoma and free lifetime product support directly from Bart at Big Boys Hobbies.

A Better-Equipped $399 Beach Package

We built this package for customers who want to open the box and have useful recovery gear ready for their first trip. Instead of filling the bundle with miscellaneous inexpensive accessories, we included four items that serve a specific purpose at the beach or in the field.

The Minelab Shell Pouch carries recovered targets and trash. The gloves protect your hands. The beach scoop helps recover targets from sand, and the hand digger covers parks, yards and firmer ground.

Why Choose the Minelab X-TERRA PRO?

The X-TERRA PRO occupies a useful position between a basic turn-on-and-go detector and a more expensive simultaneous multi-frequency model. Its controls are approachable, but they are not overly limited.

You can begin with Park, Field or Beach mode and use the factory settings. As you learn what the detector is telling you, you can adjust frequency, sensitivity, recovery speed, tones, discrimination and ferrous volume to better suit each location.

Selectable PRO-SWITCH Frequencies

PRO-SWITCH allows the detector to operate at selectable single frequencies. Park and Field modes provide 5, 10 and 15 kHz choices, while Beach mode operates at 8 kHz.

  • 5 kHz: Useful when emphasizing larger and higher-conductive targets under suitable inland conditions.
  • 10 kHz: A balanced general-purpose starting point for many coins and relics.
  • 15 kHz: Provides increased response to smaller and lower-conductive targets in Park and Field modes.
  • 8 kHz Beach mode: Configured for improved single-frequency operation around conductive salt conditions.

Park, Field and Beach Modes

Each main search mode includes two profiles. That gives you six factory starting points without making the menu unnecessarily complicated.

Search Profile Useful Starting Point
Park 1 Modern coins, larger jewelry and general park detecting
Park 2 Smaller jewelry and locations containing more closely spaced trash
Field 1 General coin and relic hunting in fields and older sites
Field 2 Smaller targets and locations with higher target concentrations
Beach 1 Dry or wet beach sand under suitable conditions
Beach 2 More difficult conductive beach and shallow-water conditions

Waterproof to 16 Feet

The X-TERRA PRO control box and supplied V12X coil are rated IP68 waterproof to 5 meters, or approximately 16 feet, when used according to Minelab’s instructions. This makes it suitable for rain, muddy locations, freshwater shallows and beach detecting.

Detailed Target Identification

The numerical Target ID runs from -19 through 99. Ferrous targets occupy -19 through 0, while nonferrous targets use 1 through 99. The detector also provides 30 discrimination segments for accepting or rejecting groups of target responses.

Target ID should be treated as useful information rather than a guaranteed identification. Depth, target angle, soil conditions and nearby metal can all affect the displayed number.

Five Audio Choices

Select 1, 2 or 5 tones, All Tones or Depth audio. Volume and ferrous volume can also be adjusted, helping you build an audio response that makes sense for your hearing and the amount of trash at the location.

Lighting and Vibration

A red display backlight, backlit keypad and control-pod flashlight help during low-light hunts. Handle vibration adds another form of target feedback and can be useful underwater or for detectorists with limited hearing.

How Does the X-TERRA PRO Perform at the Beach?

The X-TERRA PRO has a dedicated 8 kHz Beach mode and offers very capable beach performance for a detector in this price range. It is fully waterproof and the large elliptical V12X coil provides helpful coverage across open sand.

An Honest Note About Saltwater Performance

The X-TERRA PRO is a selectable single-frequency detector, not a Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency detector. It can work in wet salt sand and shallow surf when properly adjusted, but extremely conductive salt conditions or difficult black sand may require reduced sensitivity.

Customers who regularly hunt demanding saltwater locations and want the additional stability of simultaneous multi-frequency operation should also consider the Minelab X-TERRA ELITE .

Where Else Can You Use It?

Parks and Schoolyards

Park mode, numerical Target ID and adjustable recovery speed provide an approachable setup for searching for coins and jewelry around parks, playgrounds and public-use areas where detecting is permitted.

Farm Fields and Old Home Sites

Field mode and selectable frequencies allow you to adjust the detector for coins, brass, lead and other nonferrous targets. The V12X coil covers open ground efficiently while maintaining reasonable maneuverability.

Freshwater and Shallow Water

The 16-foot waterproof rating makes the X-TERRA PRO useful around freshwater beaches, creeks, swimming areas and shorelines. Appropriate waterproof headphones are required if you need underwater audio.

X-TERRA PRO Coil Compatibility

The detector includes the V12X 12-inch × 9-inch elliptical Double-D coil. Minelab also offers smaller V8X and V10X accessory coils. Compatible Minelab EQUINOX-series coils can also be used with the X-TERRA PRO.

A smaller coil can improve maneuverability around playground equipment, rocks, brush and dense trash. A larger coil provides faster ground coverage in open fields or on broad beaches.

Minelab X-TERRA PRO Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the Minelab X-TERRA PRO?

The standard detector package is $278.99. The complete Big Boys Hobbies Beach Bundle is $399 and adds a Minelab Shell Pouch, detecting gloves, beach scoop and hand digger.

What is included in the $399 Beach Bundle?

It includes the complete X-TERRA PRO factory package plus one Minelab Shell Pouch, one pair of detecting gloves, one beach scoop and one hand digger.

Does the X-TERRA PRO use Multi-IQ?

No. The X-TERRA PRO uses PRO-SWITCH selectable single-frequency technology. Customers wanting Minelab Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency performance should consider the X-TERRA ELITE or EQUINOX series.

Can the X-TERRA PRO be used at a saltwater beach?

Yes. It includes a dedicated 8 kHz Beach mode and is waterproof to 16 feet. Because it is a single-frequency detector, sensitivity may need to be reduced in difficult conductive salt or black-sand conditions.

Does the X-TERRA PRO include wireless headphones?

No. The detector has a built-in speaker and supports compatible wired, waterproof and Minelab low-latency wireless audio options. Wireless headphones are sold separately.

Is the supplied V12X coil waterproof?

Yes. The supplied V12X 12-inch × 9-inch Double-D coil is waterproof to the detector’s rated depth when used according to Minelab’s instructions.

Is it suitable for a beginner?

Yes. The factory programs provide straightforward starting points, while the frequency, tone, sensitivity and recovery controls give the owner room to learn more advanced adjustments later.

Can I purchase the detector without the Beach Bundle?

Yes. Select the standard $278.99 X-TERRA PRO detector option if you already own the recovery equipment you need.
