XP BH-02 Bone Conduction Headphones for ICON & ICON-X
Hear your XP ICON or ICON-X underwater without covering your ears. The XP BH-02 bone conduction headphones rest in front of your ears and send detector audio through vibrations conducted by your cheekbones.
Made in France by XP, the BH-02 is IP68 waterproof to approximately 5 meters or 16 feet and is designed for underwater detecting, surf hunting, windy beaches, and other noisy environments.
Conventional waterproof headphones can become harder to hear when water fills the ear. The XP BH-02 takes a different approach: its transducers sit on the cheekbones, just in front of the ears, and deliver target audio through bone conduction vibrations. Your ears remain uncovered while you detect.
That makes the BH-02 an important accessory for detectorists who want to take the XP ICON or ICON-X metal detector into surf, shallow water, or underwater environments.
Why Use Bone Conduction Headphones?
Clearer Underwater Target Audio
The BH-02 bypasses the normal air path through the ear canal and sends target audio through the cheekbones, helping preserve useful detector sound underwater.
Your Ears Remain Open
Because the transducers sit in front of the ears rather than over them, you can remain more aware of waves, people, boats, and other surroundings.
Useful on Land Too
The BH-02 can also be used during windy or noisy land hunts when conventional open headphones may be difficult to hear.
Direct Waterproof Connection
The integrated waterproof connector attaches directly to the XP ICON or ICON-X remote control for the proper BH-02 audio output.

Complete Underwater Setup Required
The BH-02 is the proper bone conduction headset for taking an ICON or ICON-X beyond the remote control’s normal shallow-water limit. For full underwater use to approximately 5 meters or 16 feet, install the BH-02 waterproof connector and use the proper XP underwater waveguide setup.
Always follow XP’s underwater preparation instructions before submerging the detector. The original remote-control cap by itself is intended only for limited immersion to approximately 1.5 meters or 5 feet for up to 30 minutes.
How to Position the XP BH-02 Correctly
- Place the headphone band around the back of your head.
- Position the two transducers in front of your ears on your cheekbones.
- Do not place the transducers directly over your ears.
- Start at a moderate volume and increase only as needed.
Important Volume and Placement Warning
The BH-02 is capable of very high output. It is designed to sit on the cheekbones, not directly on the ears. Incorrect placement on the ears at high volume can damage hearing.
To reduce that risk, the ICON remote control resets the BH-02 volume to level 5 each time the detector starts.
BH-02 Audio Operation
When the BH-02 is connected, the XP ICON system automatically provides the proper bone conduction audio output. XP specifies that SQUARE audio is the active audio type when using the BH-02.
The BH-02 does not use its own rechargeable wireless-headphone battery. It receives audio and power through its wired connection to the remote control. Using the remote speaker or BH-02 can reduce remote-control runtime compared with wireless-headphone-only audio output.
Using Earplugs with Bone Conduction
Because the BH-02 does not block the ear canals, some detectorists may choose to use suitable earplugs to reduce surrounding noise while still receiving bone conduction audio.
Diving Earplug Warning
When diving, use only earplugs specifically designed for diving and pressure equalization. Never use ordinary sealed earplugs underwater, because they may create a dangerous pressure difference in the ear canal.
Cleaning and Storage
- After use in fresh or salt water, leave the BH-02 connected and thoroughly rinse the remote control and connector area with fresh water.
- Dry the remote control and BH-02 carefully.
- After disconnecting the BH-02, make sure the remote-control cap and connector area are completely dry before reinstalling or closing the cap.
- Store the BH-02 on the included storage bracket so the headset retains the correct shape and remains comfortable against the cheekbones.
BH-02 or Standard Wireless Headphones?
Choose the BH-02 for underwater detecting, surf hunting, and situations where bone conduction audio is preferred.
Choose WSA-ST or WSA-XL ST wireless headphones for normal land detecting when you want cable-free stereo audio.
Prefer your own wired 3.5 mm headphones for dry-land use? See the XP ICON and ICON-X headphone jack adapter .

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the XP BH-02 headphones work with the Deus II?
The BH-02 is designed for the XP ICON and ICON-X. The Deus II uses the separate XP BH-01 bone conduction headphone system.
Are the BH-02 headphones wireless?
No. They connect directly to the ICON or ICON-X remote control using the integrated waterproof connector. This direct connection is needed for proper underwater audio and waterproofing.
How deep can I use the BH-02?
XP rates the BH-02 IP68 to approximately 5 meters or 16 feet when installed and used as part of the proper ICON underwater setup.
Do I need the BH-02 to use the ICON underwater?
The BH-02 waterproof connector is required for underwater use beyond approximately 1.5 meters or 5 feet. A proper XP waveguide is also required for reliable coil-to-remote communication underwater.
Where should the headphone pads sit?
They should sit on the cheekbones just in front of the ears. Do not position them directly over the ears.
Can I use the BH-02 on land?
Yes. They can be useful on windy beaches, around surf, or in other noisy environments. Because the ears remain open, they also allow greater awareness of nearby activity.
Do the BH-02 headphones need to be charged?
No. The BH-02 does not have a separate rechargeable battery. It receives power and audio through the ICON or ICON-X remote-control connection.
Does the BH-02 come with a storage bracket?
Yes. XP supplies a storage bracket that helps the headset retain its proper shape.
Can the BH-02 help someone with hearing loss?
Bone conduction may help some users perceive target vibrations, depending on the type of hearing loss. Results vary, and the BH-02 is not a medical hearing device.
