Minelab Manticore Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Manticore difficult to learn?
No it is actually easier because it has better stability, better target ID, and it's more correct on what it's telling you. You can begin with one of the factory search modes and make only basic adjustments. As you become comfortable with the detector, you can learn the 2D display, audio options, and Ferrous Limits. Free lifetime support from Big Boys Hobbies is included if you need help.
Is the Minelab Manticore waterproof?
Yes. Minelab rates the Manticore IP68 waterproof to 5 meters or approximately 16 feet when used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Are the included ML 105 wireless headphones waterproof?
No. The detector and M11 coil are waterproof, but the included ML 105 wireless headphones are not. Compatible waterproof headphones are required for underwater audio.
Can the Manticore be used on a saltwater beach?
Yes. It includes Beach General, Beach Low Conductors, Beach Deep and Beach Surf & Seawater modes for dry sand, wet sand, surf and conductive saltwater conditions.
Does the 2D Target ID Map identify exactly what is underground?
No detector can identify every buried object with certainty. The 2D map provides additional ferrous and conductive information that can be considered together with the numerical ID, target trace, audio and signal consistency.
How long does the Manticore battery last?
Minelab lists a typical runtime of approximately 10 hours from a full charge. Runtime can vary with backlight, flashlight, wireless audio, vibration and other operating conditions.
Can I use a USB power bank with the Manticore?
Yes. Minelab states that the Manticore can be powered from a compatible 5-volt USB power bank. Never use the detector underwater while connected to an external power bank.
Does the Manticore include wireless headphones?
Yes. The standard U.S. package includes ML 105 over-ear low-latency wireless headphones and a protective storage case.
Can the Manticore software be updated?
Yes. The detector is software-upgradeable through a compatible USB connection. Follow Minelab’s official instructions whenever installing an update.
